Kyseenalainen taideteko / Questionable Art Act

The diploma work in Pallas fine arts (master's degree programme) in University of Art and Design Helsinki consists of a written part and an artistic project. I graduated in 2004 with my diploma work Kyseenalainen taideteko - heteronormin kyseenalaistaminen taiteellisessa työskentelyssä (Questionable Art Act - Questioning Heteronorm in Artistic Work). The artistic part of my diploma work is the installation Sukupuolisuhteellista (Sex Relational).

In my diploma work I study the methods that enable me as a visual artist, a woman and a lesbian to question the heteronormativity in society and art world. I aim to deconstruct the dominant presumptions and representations of gender and sexuality. I study, in practise and in theory, queer-theories, the ideas of grotesque and the subversive possibilities in repeating differently. In the written part of my diploma work I also briefly introduce some other artworks with similar themes that have influenced my artistic work.

Mihail Bahtin, Pauline von Bonsdorff & Anita Seppä, Judith Butler, Mary Douglas, Michel Foucault, Pia Livia Hekanaho, Peter Horne & Reina Lewis, Marja Kaskisaari, Paula Kuosmanen, Lucy Lippard, Linda Nochlin, Rozsika Parker & Griselda Pollock, Tuija Pulkkinen, Leena-Maija Rossi, Mary Russo, Annamari Vänskä etc.
